“During the investigation, police confirmed the involvement of the Bhau gang. An official said four suspects have already been arrested, while two key shooters, Ankit and Deepak, are still on the run,” said Ankit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).

Adding to his statement further, he said, based on the interrogation of the arrested suspects and human intelligence inputs, police identified Ankit and Deepak as the shooters who were absconding.

“On Thursday morning, the Anti-Narcotics Cell in Dwarka received a tip-off that Ankit would be near Sai Baba Mandir in Najafgarh. A trap was set near the UER-II bus stand. Around 8.05 am, when Ankit arrived on a motorcycle, the police team signalled him to stop,” the officer added.

Instead of surrendering, Ankit opened fire on the police, firing three rounds. One bullet struck Head Constable Kuldeep’s bulletproof jacket. In self-defence, the police team retaliated by firing two rounds at the accused, one of which hit his leg, the DCP said.

The DCP mentioned that Ankit was taken to the hospital and is reported to be stable.

Further investigation into this case is ongoing by the team to nab the other accused, who is suspected to be on the run.
